This photo was taken from the top of the tallest temple in the city. It stands at 139 ft tall and is one of the tallest man made structures in Belize. To the right are three temples that they used to track the movements of the sun. In the back is where the city’s royalty lived.
This was a really fun excursion. We got to to tour the Ancient Mayan City Xunantunich. It was a great learning experience and I saw a lot of cool stuff. It was a lot of hard work to get to the top but it was well worth it.
One of my favorite things we got to do was go snorkeling on our excursion out to Caye Caulker. We got to snorkel three different sites. Each site was so much fun. I’ve been snorkeling since I was 10 and this was one of the greatest snorkels I ever got to do.
I’m not much of a morning person but it was well worth getting up at the crack of dawn to watch the sunrise. It was so peaceful to sit out there quietly and listen to the sound of the waves crashing on the shore.
A week ago today we left Belize to return home. It was hard to leave because we had such a great time. At the same time it feels good to be back. I look forward to returning soon to Belize.
This is was the rooftop balcony view from the othe hotel that students stayed at. It was a great place to relax and hangout with friends after a long day. Whenever we didn’t have breakfast at dinner at the other hotel we would have it on the rooftop balcony.
My secondary job was to teach computer coding. This was the first time that we did this project before. Thankfully we found a great website that had games that are similar to coding for the students to play. Attendance was always fairly high as a lot of kids wanted to learn about computer coding. We even had a few teachers come to these sessions to learn alongside their students.
My primary job was teaching in the schools. I taught both in primary and high schools. In this picture, the students are working on creating a product that they have to then market to the class.
One of our first projects in Dangriga was to paint the Red Cross building. It was great to see everyone come together for the first time to get a project done. We were able to paint almost the entire exterior of the building within a few hours due to great teamwork.
This is where my hotel was located within the city of Dangriga. It was beautiful to watch the sunrise in the morning from the shoreline. We ate some of our breakfasts and dinners out here. After work, I would often set up my hammock and lay there enjoying the sound of the ocean.
